Brakes

The brakes are one of the most important safety systems on your vehicle.

Brake systems use either disc brakes on all four wheels or disc brakes in the front and drum brakes in the rear. Despite differences in the way these two systems operate, both disc and drum brakes have the same function: to create friction that causes the wheels to stop rotating.

Brakes are a heavy wear item and brake pads (for a disc braking system) and shoes (for a drum braking system) should be checked often and changed regularly.

Warning Signs

Have your Brakes inspected immediately if you detect additional noise while braking or a change in the way your brake pedal feels.

Speak to your Montmorency Ford service adviser if any of the following occur:

Grab
If your vehicle's brakes grab at the slightest pressure, it could be due to a problem with contaminated linings or a loose or broken component.
Pull
If your vehicle pulls to the left or right when braking, it might be because of an underinflated tire or brakes in need of adjustment or repair.
Squeal
Your brakes need attention if you hear excessive squealing, grinding, screeching, chattering, or groaning.
Pulsation
If your brake pedal or steering wheel shakes or vibrates when braking, it may be due to a needed brake repair or a faulty steering component.

When replacing or repairing brake components on your Ford, Lincoln or Mercury vehicle, you should use only those parts recommended by Montmorency Ford.
