Three new safety and driving assist systems will be introduced on certain
Ford and
Lincoln products in 2009.
The Collision Warning with Brake Support uses a front radar system to detect risks of imminent frontal collisions. Based on a simple gear selector, the system emits a sharp alarm and activates a warning light at the base of the windshield while preparing the brakes for a quick response.

First introduced on the
2009 Lincoln MKS, the Adaptive Cruise Control system adapts to traffic conditions by adjusting the speed of the car before the driver does. The system also accelerates once the road is clear.
The Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) with Cross Traffic Alert warns the driver of movement on the side of the car when in reverse. The radars detect objects on both sides of the car and up to 65 feet away; the driver is warned when a vehicle is approaching by way of warning lights in the outside mirrors and an alarm.
Ford is democratizing advanced safety technology with these new systems, no longer limiting them to its high-end vehicles.
