At the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, Ford confirmed the production of the Lincoln MKT, an SUV derived from the
MKT prototype that was presented at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show by Peter Horbury, Ford's director of design for North America.
Although it shares its platform with the
Ford Flex, the Lincoln MKT's unique design disassociates it completely from the Flex. With its flowing lines and impressive grille inherited from the
MKR prototype, this vehicle will not go unnoticed and will undoubtedly attract consumers to the American manufacturer's showrooms.
The MKT will be powered by a 3.7-litre, V6 engine, the same one behind the Flex. An EcoBoost engine will also be available, a turbocharged, 3.5-litre V6 producing 340 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque. It will be coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Lincoln promises that the EcoBoost will considerably reduce emissions as well as fuel consumption.
The Lincoln MKT will be assembled in Oakville, Ontario, along with the Ford Edge, the Lincoln MKX and the Ford Flex.
