2015 Ford C-Max Quick Look 2015 Ford C-Max Quick Look
by Miranda Lightstone

Pros: The Ford C-Max offers a versatile, fuel efficient option for young families looking for a hybrid alternative to the Toyota Prius.

Cons: There’s quite a price jump for the plug-in version that may deter some buyers. And the backseat is not the most comfortable place to be, truth be told.

2015 Ford C-Max Price and Fuel Economy: There are two hybrid and one plug-in version of the 2015 Ford C-Max and they are as follows:

  • 2015 Ford C-Max $25,999
  • 2015 Ford C-Max Energi $35,499
  • 2015 Ford C-Max Hybrid SEL $29,849

The price jump for the Energi is due to the plug-in nature and full EV mode available that allows for battery-only driving for some distance. So the two hybrid versions see a combined fuel economy rating of 7.1L/100km whereas the Energi version of the Ford C-Max averages 7.4L/100km.

Powertrain: The same engine is found in both the standard hybrid and the Energi, and it’s a 2.0L Atkinson-Cycle inline-4 Hybrid Drive that produces 141 horsepower (jumps to 188 in the hybrid and 195 in the Energi with the batteries help) and 129 lb-ft of torque. In the hybrid, the battery is a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion, and in the Energi it’s a larger 7.6 kWh lithium-ion. Power is handled via an e-CVT (electronic continuously variable transmission) and is sent to front wheels.

Charge time for the 2015 Ford C-Max Energi takes up to 7 hours on a 120v, and only 2.5 hours with a 240v. The Energi can travel in full electric mode up to approximately 30km on a full charge.

Changes and Improvements: There were no major changes or improvements made to the 2015 Ford C-Max.

Cargo Capacity: The 2015 Ford C-Max hybrid version has room for five passengers and 694 litres of space behind the back seats. As the battery is larger in the Energi version, the trunk space shrinks slightly to 545 litres.

Safety: The 2015 Ford C-Max is equipped with all manner of standard safety equipment and airbags, as well as AdvanceTrac with roll stability control, and SOS Post-Crash Alert System that will automatically activate the horn and flashers should your airbags deploy.
