2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid Preview 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid Preview
by Guillaume Rivard
Pros: Completely redesigned last year, the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid continues to impress with a very classy and elegant design, numerous cutting-edge technologies, a spacious and quiet interior, dynamic handling, and of course greater fuel economy than with the regular Fusion, not to mention other midsize hybrids. It also manages to retain a fold-down rear seat, which not all its competitors do.

Cons: Real-world mileage is often lower than ratings, and the available MyFord Touch interface is still prone to glitches. Moreover, expect to sacrifice a good deal of trunk space (due to the location of the battery) and make do with front-wheel drive (all-wheel drive can't be specified with this variant of the Fusion).

2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid Price: This model comes in three trim levels including S ($28,699), SE ($29,999), and Titanium ($35,499). The Appearance and Luxury packages will push the price up.

2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid Fuel Economy:
Ratings for the Fusion Hybrid are 4.0L/100km in the city and 4.1L/100km on the highway.

Improvements and Changes: For 2014, Ford has revised several elements of the Fusion Hybrid's vehicle and climate control software to make it more economical under certain conditions.

2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid Powertrain: The hybrid system here consists of a 2.0L 4-cylinder, Atkinson-cycle engine joined to an electric motor that's fed by a lithium-ion battery pack. Together, they send 188 horsepower and 129 lb-ft of torque to the front wheels through a specialized CVT. The Fusion Hybrid can travel gas-free at speeds of up to 100 km/h.

Cargo Capacity: The 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid boasts a 340-litre trunk.

Safety: Eight airbags come standard, along with AdvanceTrac stability control. Most trim levels are available with adaptive cruise control, active park assist, a rear camera, cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assist. It's worth noting that the car received an IIHS Top Safety Pick designation.

Comparing the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid: Interested in buying a very fuel-efficient midsize car like the Fusion Hybrid? Consider the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid, Kia Optima Hybrid, Honda Accord Hybrid, Toyota Camry Hybrid and Prius, as well as the Volkswagen Passat TDI.
